Winter pond fish feeding
My auntie and uncle have a pond set up in their garden, approx 250G, it runs a 1500G pond filter, unsure of the make but I have seen it.
Their pond has been stocked and running fine since approximately march time this year.
Speaking to my aunt today she mentioned that was her about to stop feeding the fish for the winter. Now to me I would think they need food over the winter.
But I don't have a pond so thought the AC could give me an answer
Approximate stocking is;
2-4 common goldfish, no bigger than 6 inches each.
1 or 2 koi, no bigger than 6 inches each.
Cheers guys
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

fish are cold blooded, and their metabolism is related to the water temperature.
in winter their metabolism slows to almost stopping and feeding in this time can be harmful. the fish will likely not show interest in food but if they do, the food will get swallowed but since their digestive systems have shut down it will rot inside the fish, with significant consequences. the beneficial bacteria of the pond also has virtually ceased working and adding food will likely pollute the water. mostly people feed their fish lots of food in late summer so that they later have enough reserves to last them throughout the winter.

Pond fish should stop being fed when the water temperature reaches 50 degrees. Feediing should resume in the spring when water temperature reaches above 50 degrees. Spring and autumn they should be fed a vegetable diet, protein in summer.
2 10 gallon tanks, 1 20 gallon tank, 1 Fluval Edge, 1 29 gallon tank, and one backyard pond.
