Do not sex by egg spots. For most malawis they don't mean whether or not they are male and female. I have a breeding colony of yellow tail acei and a breeding colony of yellow labs. My female acei have 3 egg spots each where as my male only has 2. My labs all have 2 spots, male and female. With male labs what I have found is the males have more of a profound/wider black stripe on top.

To add to the above, males have pointed fins whereas females will have more rounded fins. If sex is a problem you could always order pre-sexed fish online from a reputable dealer. After your tank is cycled of course, because the ratios will be fairly exact and you want to prevent any losses or stresses.

    Just a few online dealers:

    http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/a....cfm?c=830+831

    http://livefishdirect.com/

Most of them will sex upon request if possible, or will sell pre-sexed fish.
    Coastie-to-be... hopefully.

Ill second the Davesfish.com. I ordered a red empress, 2 calvus "white", 2 calvus "ink fins", 2 Magara julies, and 2 ocellatus "gold" and they came in beautiful.
