It takes about 3 months to properly sex guppy fry. It can be done earlier (let us say a very colourful fry is usually a male... and dull ones are usually female). However, this is not written in gold. The only real way to wait until the back fin starts to grow. The male's fin is longer than the female's fin.

Males are smaller than females and this will show at about 3 months... NOTE: 3 months is when they are sexually mature also... so you will see the males courting the females.

NOTE: Even the fin thing can be misleading... I had a female guppy who had a longer dorsal (back) fin... I know she was female because she gave birth many times... but she was larger than the males.
