Who bred in my tank????
Hi. I am totally shocked right now. Upon my daily inspection of my 55gallon tank, there are small eggs on my elodea!! What the heck? I have no idea who is even in the right environment for this!
Eggs are small (like pinhead small) and very white. They are individual, not in a clump. The eggs are in the elodea facing the wall of the tank. I'd assume others have already been eaten. There look to be about 5 or maybe 10.
Who is in the tank: Rainbows: one (menopausal, since she's 9) female australian rainbow, two male bosemans, one female boseman. They are full grown.
Black skirt tetras, both sexes I think, eight of them
guppies, all male
otos, seven of them. Brand new as of Saturday, don't think it's them.
Snails, two. They go at it a lot, but no eggs and I know what they look like
Tank conditions: amm0, nitrite0, nitrate10. pH is 8, temp is about 77 (I'm having heater issues). Did a 50% water change today. Obviously it's low pressure weather wise with the hurricane.
Wow I'm excited!! I mean, I don't the capability to keep these fry...no extra tank ATM except for the 20gal. But wow. Who had babies? I'm really surprised, and flattered that they are that happy...
Sorry the post is choppy. Gotta go shower, just really surprised and wondering. TIA!!Beth

My advice: slow down, think, and be willing to learn. Then you'll be fine, no matter what.

It could be your Otto's. New scenery sometimes help get them in the mood and in a different thread you said your pH was not that off from the LFS where you got them. They paste their eggs on decorations, plants and glass just like Cory-cats. Did they look like this?

They look like that size-wise. They are very white though - in the pic they look yellowish. They aren't exactly "pasted" on the plant, but they aren't moving/free floating either. They are just so darn small, I don't think it could be the rainbows.
Hmmm. Those otos are very happy in there...I was expecting some lethargy or even some death, but they are all doing great. Very active.Beth

The eggs in the pic might be just further developed.
