How wonderful....
It looks like I will be getting a 3rd office tank. One of my students brought me a present this morning in a Ziploc bag of dirty as hell water. It is a Jewel Cichlid...he stated that he was keeping it in one of those 1 gallon V shaped tanks from walmart but the pump broke and he thought I might want another fish
First off...I really don't want another fish but didn't want the poor thing to be stuffed into a locker the rest of the day and probably flushed alive when he took it home. So I go home on my lunch break and drag another 10 gallon out of storage along with an AC30 and some media from the 150G. Fish is in the floor in a bare tank for now. I do have a spot beside my desk which will probably fit the tank...I just now have to buy a stand, and some sort of lighting apparatus. I know 10G isnt preferable for a Jewel Cichlid; but considering it was living in a 1 gallon piece of junk I think this will be like living in a mansion.
I do not blame the student, he is only 14. I do however blame the parents for not giving a crap about anything but their recreational substance abuse...180G CA Cichlid Tank(coming soon)| 90G SA Cichlid Tank| 56G SA Planted Community| 50G (undecided stock)| 20G Planted Nano Fish

It's a good thing that he had someone caring around to pass the fish onto!

Being 14 might work for not having the right fish but no excuse for the "dirty as hell" water. Even 14 years old should have something in the brain department.

I guess that can depend on how well he's been brought up, Hobbsy. Responsibility has to start somewhere.

If your own environment isn't ever clean I guess you don't recognize the need for an animal to have a clean one.
Thanks all...I just hope the fish makes it, Im sure it is pretty shocked going from one extreme to another parameter wise.180G CA Cichlid Tank(coming soon)| 90G SA Cichlid Tank| 56G SA Planted Community| 50G (undecided stock)| 20G Planted Nano Fish

I seem to recall this same thing happening with a Betta and a blood parrot, I'm sure in time you will love this fish like you learned to love them. Good luck with him.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Yeah pretty much about the same thing. Fish are disposable and if people know you have some and care about them they tend to dump their problem off on ya...probably also why I have wound up with so many feral barn cats

If you lived closer to me right about now you might come home to a bunch of Texas cichlids sitting on your doorstep. I promise the water would be clean at least.
