Looking again, I get the feeling that its going to very underwhelming to you. The jets are crimped way too much, its going to just spray out in two tiny streams on each one. But if you open them more, you kill the overall flow. Thus the suggestion of two pumps...

Anywho, let us know how it works out!

That picture isn't of my build actually :D I had a feeling some people were mistaking UGJ for UGF so that's what the picture was for.

What are the dimensions of that 125G? Think I will be using a closed loop instead of a main line and branches. I think that a closed loop distributes the pressure evenly for every jet.

I can tell you, no matter what, you are going to have less flow than you think. I ran a 600gph pump on a 125G and it was much less than I wanted. Had to add 2 powerheads to get it acceptable for what I was looking for. If I did it again I would have done 2 pumps with 2 different lines.

*edit- Just got the picture to open. Looks good only I would still look into splitting it into two. Give it a shot without sand and see (test it with cheap flake food). Then if you are not satisfied switch it up and try different things.

Also I never had a problem with the sand. I do suggest adhering the sand to the cpvc though.

I am not sure what you mean by closed loop. That would imply that the water goes from the pump through the pipe then back to the pump. That would not do anything at all.

I think the tank is 5x2x30"..I think....something like that.

Just test it and be prepared to make modifications.

By closed loop I mean this :

Thanks a lot for all the info. It's really helpful.
Guess I'll start shopping for a powerhead and get myself some pvc

Neat design, but the furthest away from the pump will still lack in power. There is no real benefit to having a loop like that except that it stays out of the way, which is a HUGE perk if you have digging fish. If anything you are going to get less power from that as one powerhead is now split into two lines.

I would use two powerheads for that personally. You can always tune down an overpowered pump. You can't do much with an underpowered one.

And my mistake. I started with a rio600(600 gph) and upgraded to a rio1200(1200gph)

The 600 was way low for the size and the amount of jets. 1200 worked just right.

    Current process:

DIY background + rocks siliconed in place

UGJ not in place. Haven't bought a decent new powerhead yet. I'm a student so always short on cash :). My old spraybar is now sitting on the bottom in the mean time. No pump attached to it atm so kinda pointless but w/e.

you can use a larger pump and valve it so you can control the flow and maybe redirect part of the flow.
