Fishmommie! that is more options-I need help cutting it down. lol

I do appreciate that additional information and enjoy the columbian tetra's.
However, from experience the fish just act sooo much better when in a school of at least 10. So I do like that recommendation..just need 10x of a school (preferably)

If you have enough filtration and good maintenance practice as far as weekly water changes, you can stretch things a little bit - the angel and the blood fins.

so went into the lfs to browse.

saw they had bolivan rams-price was not marked.
    I asked...got 10% off b/c I named their fish for them.
and came home with 2 bolivian rams. lol

I had an EBR-and he was my favorite. I couldn't pass up the price and another opportunity for some rams.

So they will QT for some time, then I'll explore the bloodfins when appropriate.
    I can't throw 12 fish into my 10gal QT.

I did fancy an angel-but it didn't catch my eye like these two or got me as excited, so at least I know this was the right choice for myself

KevenVA-it was at Petco, there was no tag, and I said you have bolivian rams in there, and she goes, let me search, 5min later she puts a tag up for Ruby Clown cichlids. tried to give me all 3, but I wasn't really 100% on the sexes, but it looks like 2m/1f and that wasn't a good combo. so i think i ended up with 1m/1f. we'll see when they color up.
My only other FW LFS is 20min away and specializes in cichlids.

Fishmommie-good point and exactly why I did the impulse purchase. lets hope they work out.

rummy nose tetra are a little bigger then cardinals. These are the only two fish I currently own other then goldfish( separate tank). Cardinals are more squeamish then most other tetras and even neons seem to be a little "tougher" over all from my experiences. Put your hand up to the glass of neon tank then cardinal tank at the LFS and see the difference in activity. Just one of the ways I found out how sensitive cardinals are compared to many other hardier tetra
