you might just be right. this resembles very closely my geo. Just read a profile on the brasiliensis. looks like it's going to be a big fish ... although the LFS told me it would top out at around 6 inches, the profile says 28cm. if my calcs are right, that around 11 inches. yikes.

That does not look like a Brasilensis juvenile. I think they are:
Guianacara owroewefi
Max size 6"
Sex: Monomorphic (Males and Females look alike)
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profile...ies.php?id=472In a strict sense, this fish is not really considered an "Eartheater". Although a hardy fish, Guianacara are rare in the hobby. They are monogamous cavebrooders and like to form colonies.

But it doesn't look like the above fish either. This one has a horizontal black marking while the one you showed has a vertical one...

seriously - ALL of the suggestions look like they could be my fish. I doubt very much that it is a rare species and the profile of the Guianacara owroewefi suggests it's rarely seen in the hobby, but wow, it really looks like it.
So I'm still in a bit of a quandary.
I'll post more photos as he/she grows and maybe some definitive trait will stand out.
thanks to all of you who have helped.
