Stupid ? about media bags
So, I'm looking to grab some media bags to hold the ceramic media for a canister filter. They have some really cheap ones on ebay w/ free shipping that I'm considering. However, they have a zipper instead of drawstring. Would the metal on the zipper be a problem? THanks.

If you don't know what metal the zippers are made from you probably shouldn't use them.

I bought a pack of 2 from Petsmart for $ .88, I wouldn't pay the shipping to buy them online. They are super cheap anyway.

Most zippers these days are plastic, except for the heavy-duty ones. Is there any way you can contact the seller and find out? I would think if they were specifically made to hold filter media in an aquarium, they would be of entirely safe materials. Then again, it's best to find out for sure than to assume the obvious. If in doubt, and you can't find out, perhaps your local LFS has some with ties instead of zippers.

Even if the zippers are "true stainless," it might be that they are stainless coated and could still break down over time. When in doubt, don't use metal in the tank.
