Male and Female Betta Together

I recently aquired two Bettas, 1 Male and 1 Male.

Instead of the male being totally agressive towards her, he shows like gentleness towards her, both bettas are not big but not small, so my question is, could they potentially be matting partners?

Really interested to no, and by the way, i put in a flat piece of styrofoam in the tank cut out as a leaf and hes blowing bubbles under it. Found that interesting.

I would get a tank divider or a second tank. They may seem peaceful now but once the male decides he is ready to mate he will harrass the female until she dies. It might happen really quickly too so you might not be able to save her.

Point of clarification, bettas don't "pair up" like some fish do...they are happy to have more than one partner, as long as that partner is suitable.

I agree with Lady G.

Please tell us the size of the tank, as well as filtration and if it is heated. This will help us predict future problems.

You can not leave them together. Today they may be fine but tomorrow one may be dead. That's why they are not put in fish tanks when they arrive at the store and are kept separate.

I slid a divider between them, I have a 10 gal rectangular aquarium and a suitable filter system for a 10 gal. slightly modified to reduce current, before that I observed them today and the female was like bugging him and turning he body like at an angle of almost 80 degrees Nd kinda swimming into him sideways, idk what this means but I don't have a clue what she's thinking. and now he wants nothing to do with her but was never aggressive
