Beginner - 55 Gallon Top Fin Starter
I recently purchased a 55 Gallon Top Fin Starter Kit. It came with a 55 gallon tank, a Top Fin 60 Power Filter, a 200-watt UL heater, two hoods with lights, and some other startup goodies. I have begun my fishless cycle, as recommended in the cycling forum, and was just starting this thread to ask for some input on my filter and heater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The heater should be fine. It says you are in CA so odds are you are pretty mild weather wise. You should look at getting a second filter for the tank (you can just add it on, it wont hurt your cycle). Lool for something rated for 60 gallons or higher. Everyone has their own preferred brands of stuff. For hang on the back filters an aquaclear 70 or aquaclear 110 would be a good addition ( it is really easy to rinse the media out when needed and keeps costs down). There are many good canister filters to choose from.
Good luck with your cycle.
