Thread: Snail eggs?

  1. Default Snail eggs?

We have 2 mystery snails in our 15G. They both came with plants. They're both pea-size, and one is roundish and always hoovering the glass and plants. The other is pointy and burrows, so we hardly ever see it.

I was watching the round snail climb around one of our plants, and I noticed the stem of the plant has a clear gelatinous glob on it with little "bubbles" in the glob. Are they snail eggs? We don't have any fish that I would expect to lay eggs in our tank.
15 gal: 4 mollies, 1 platy, 1 neon tetra, trumpet snails, pond snails.
20 gal: 20+ various molly and platy fry, pond snails.
55 gal: Planted. No fish yet.

  2. Default

That does sound like snail eggs. Are you wanting more snails in your tank? You can complete a search and I'm sure you could find many threads on how to maintain snail population. Snails will multiple VERY quickly.

FYI - 'Mystery snail' is a common hobbyist name for a variety of Apple snail but I am thinking that you meant it more akin to "These snails are a mystery to me' ;-).

In cases like this pics are always helpful if possible, In the meantime.. Are these close?

    This is a pond snail:

This is a Malaysian Trumpet Snail [MTS]:

These are live bearing btw so the eggs are not from them.

    Either look familiar?

The eggs you describe sound exactly like Pond snail eggs to me.

More Snail info here for you.

Yes, those are exactly what we have! Thanks!

As far as I know, there is only one of each..ah, well.

At this point, I don't mind a few more snails. We have a 55G that's still on the fishless cycle; we can put some in there. But I'll read up on controlling the population!

I promise you that there are more than one lol.

Reading up is a good plan, As long as you don't overfeed you will not have a snailpocolypse and having some is not really an issue.
