Adding air to a tank (hypothetical)
If I wanted to add air bubbles to a tank, would there be any reason not to do it via a sponge filter?
It just seems that if I'm going to add air (for whatever reason) might as well throw in some nice filtration to boot.Always remember, Goliath was a 40 point favorite against David. ~ Shug Jordan

I would go right ahead and add the sponge filter! It's extra filtration, extra oxygen, and sponge filters are great for building nice bacteria colonies to keep your tank nicely cycled!

Sure, why not... You're going to be running an air pump anyway.

An added benefit is that you will have a cycled sponge ready to use for a quarantine tank if necessary.

I keep sponge filters in both my tanks, two in my discus tank which gets massive water changes. Sponge filters are awesome!
