Ummm...I just have to say...
The bows are now in the 55g tank. It cycled surprisingly fast (3 weeks or so), and I just transferred the filter from the old tank, so hopefully we are OK. I will still be testing daily, since I'm psycho like that.
Anyway, the bows are so happy and they are BEAUTIFUL - they colored right up. Like, I love them even more than I did before. So active and colorful!
I think I need to start saving for a six foot tank.
But, I will probably go to fishkeeper hell for keeping them in that 20gallon tank for so long. Will I ever stop feeling guilty? Probably not. But I am feeling slightly better now that they are in a halfway decent tank.
Anyway, just needed to share. I love my rainbows. Love.

What's important is that you're working hard to keep them happy and healthy! When I started fish keeping, I had a comet goldfish in a 10 gallon tank and I didn't know I had to change the water, so I never did.
Somehow, he survived 5 years like that.
Now I know better! You shouldn't feel guilty. You didn't know, and now that you do, you're making the right steps to improve their living arrangements! I think that's great! :D Most people would stubbornly say "Well, they're obviously fine the way they are." and just leave them like that.
I think you're doing great!
