You could be cycling with pure ammonia instead since it is easier to dose precisely and has the added benefit of not turning into a huge mess on the substrate.

Have you read the cycling stickys? --> In red here.

    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

yeah looked into using pure ammonia first but due to living on a small isle (26 mile x 26 mile) had problems finding it, was then advised on this site that using fish flakes and raw fish/prawns would be my next option. just cant seem to get the ammonia up high enough

You need considerate amount than a 'pinch' of fish food to get a good reading of ammonia. Might be close to handfuls.

He is doing a fishless cycle, seb's fish. He's using Fish Food to produce the ammonia for the cycle because he lives on a small isle and is having trouble finding Pure Ammonia at the stores.

I'm wondering if you shouldn't just put raw fish in a stocking in there instead of flakes - sounds like a pinch of flakes isn't doing the trick - yes, rotting fish doesn't smell good but I'm guessing it'll produce more than .25 of ammonia and keep it steady for a bit.

No problem. There was quite a bit of information there to read. I actually had to read it a couple times myself
