i want to get some bronzes and all i have is aquarium gravel, how much of a real danger is it? and if it is bad, i have a bunch of river slate that i can line ontop of the gravel and a fake 9x9 square of grass.

They will be fine with the gravel. Plenty of users here have their cory's w/ a gravel substrate.

I have cories with gravel - they have no problems getting food & foraging around.

While gravel is certainly more abrasive than finer substrates, the data suggests that barbel erosion has been inconsistent between different tanks using the same type of gravel. In fact, there has been evidence showing that poor water quality and substrate maintenance is the catalyst for barbels being worn off.

Substrate. Some gravels are sharper than others. Smooth gravel is fine.

    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Smooth gravel is completely fine for cories, however, if your
Gravel is large grained then food will settle through out of the cory's
Reach. A food tray for reptiles can prove useful in such a situation.
