Betta help
Just got a new betta fish and he's solo in my 29 planted... My question is will my aquaclear power filter for 20-50 gallons bother him in terms of the current? It pumps out 200 gph, i could also turn it down. Thanks in advance

They seem to do ok swimming in current, however what will bother him is the current destroys his bubble nest and sometimes that can stress them out if they are in spawning mode. If you can break the flow on the return on slow it down it should help. With ours we also brought the water level all the way up level with the return flow so it didn't fall at all, and added some floating plants like water velvet, fairy moss, duck weed, or frogsbit to reinforce the bubble nests. They love it now. The whole top of the tank is covered in bubbles.

I have an aquaclear 50 on my 26 gallon with a betta (and tankmates), and Mr. Fishyface never really had any problems with the current. So long as there are some plants and decorations so he can get out of the current if he needs to, your betta should do just fine.

Also they lay on leaves when they sleep, so if you can you want to make sure that there is a spot with a plant that is out of the current that it can use as a bed.

Another question I have is when will the betta eat and how does he know the pellets are
Food? And how can he see them when he otherwise might be distracted

Oh don't worry about that. He will be able to smell it a mile away. Plus they have pretty good sight. Try some bloodworms. They will eat just about anything with gusto, but they LOVE bloodworms. Usually after they get a taste for them you can get them to eat right out of your hand. When ours see us come up to the tank they come to the surface. We just dangle worms off our fingers and they will stuff themselves.

Feed him at the same time every day and he'll be ready and waiting at chow time. Trust me on that. Mine throw hissy fits if I'm late with the food.
