The product of an incorrect species ratio!
Ok, guys and gals, now I know that breeding hybrids isn't the greatest thing in the world, and I personally would never go out of my way to even attempt to breed any hybrids. But after I moved house, unfortunately I lost my beautiful male Yellow Lab. Now because my town is absolutely terrible for buying any kind of fish at the moment, my African tank was left with a couple of female Yellow Labs, and Chad, my beautiful big male Chadagha. Well unbeknown to me, Chad wanted to do me a favor and fertilize a batch of the female Labs eggs... And this, my friends, is the result!

This is Chad. I've posted a picture of him before. Mum is a really nice Yellow Lab, that I don't have a picture of yet, because she won't be still long enough!
And don't worry, the hybrids won't be sold or given away to anyone. They'll stay with me, until they turn up their toes. They actually look great, when they show off the bright blue and yellow all together. Some of them are the yellow of the Labs and are developing the spots and splotches of the Chadagha. My phone pictures don't do their looks any favors, but that's all I've got at the mo!Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. Thanks! I think they do too! Some of them are quite the character, and will pick at the hairs on my arm if I'm working on the tank!

Nice fish, looks like it has a 'shubunkin' colour scheme going on
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Yeah, some the young ones have got those shubunkin style splotches all over them! I'll try and get a pic of one of those later on!

Those look very cool escamosa!
I end up with some halfbreeds out of my tank too. The funny thing is that no a single store will take them but I've got friends lined up to take them. I have a Hongi and a yellow lab that breed together on a regular basis and the fish I end up with is this yellow to purple fade with black stripes. They actually look really cool! (IMHO anyway...)

I've seen other halfbreeds out there that look great too. I know fish lines are important and all but I think we miss out sometimes with some fish. Looking at angels too. If we kept those to select types/lines only, look at all the awesome looking angels that simply wouldnt be.Angel breeder wanna-be

They're cute little guys. As long as they aren't put on the market and sold as something else, I find nothing wrong with it. How many did you end up with?

Jaster, they look great! I'd love some of those!
Hobbsy, I ended up with 12. And wow, are they taking after that Chadagha and growing quickly! A couple of them are the same size as their mother! I did think of trying to sell them to one of my LFSs, but then I thought about if someone else buys them, then breeds them, and there's a bit of a throw back to the yellow labs, then they sell them as yellow labs, then that's not gonna be good later on. I've got a couple that look exactly like yellow labs, until the blue comes through on their cheeks. I'm getting quite attached to them anyway, so I'll keep them.Last edited by escamosa; 09-18-2012 at 02:19 AM.

*random wondering* Does that make them Yellow Chadaghas or Chadagha Labs?

I was actually trying to come up with a cool name for them. The best I could come up with was Electric Chadaghas!
