Thread: Blue acara

  1. Default Blue acara

Just picked up a beautiful blue acara yesterday(will post pics after he settles in). He is just a shade under 4 inches and seems to adjusting great.
Has anyone here had any luck keeping Keyholes(cleithracara maronii) or Rainbow Cichlids(herotilapia multispinosa) with Blue Acaras? Any luck keeping all three together? Im thinking either acara/keyhole/rainbow individually , or a pair of Keyholes with the single Acara. The tank is a 55 standard. Any thoughts?

I bet you can keep rainbows in there, and maybe the keyholes. You would just have to watch for any of the fish bullying each other.
    nice to see you man!

IMO it would work out pretty well with the 3 of them, as none of the species are really that aggressive and you have a decent sized space to work with. Provide a good amount of decor to break up the lines of sight and having some dither fish would be a good choice as well...a small group of black skirt tetras would work well.

    Common decency...imagine the nerve!

Should work out, just watch the keyholes as they are pretty timid. The Herotilapia Multispinosa are pretty laid back for a central. When I had the rainbows even when they spawned they only claimed a small space for themselves. And the blue acaras are pretty tough but laid back, I use them for dithers as they are tough but don't look to be the bully of the tank.

I will post pics soon. I love the Keyholes breeding dress. Very regal and elegant.

I have a few swordtails in there now and he(the acara) seems to avoid them. Hopefully he wont get too rowdy when he settles in , so far he seems fairly timid. Thanks.

Im thinking of taking my Von Rios out of my pearl gourami tank and putting them in this setup , as they are getting a little nippy. Thats a good point about using the decor to break up areas of the tank. I tried explaining this to my wife and her response was "it looks stupid". Good thing she doesnt have the final word on my fishtanks .Thanks.

Sorry for the horrible quality. It took 50 shots to get these two. He is an uncooperative little beast.

I have been well, and your acara looks awesome. Did you ever get back on the other site?

I have kept that combination and it worked great. I also had a pair of sajica on the tank.

The sajica is a great little fish as it usually as aggressive as its company. They stand their ground with jags ( I have seen them beat of jags 4-5 time their size). At the same time they are friendly enough to keep with apistos if kept in a low aggression tank. According to my experince.
Do as I say. Not as I do.
