Unique petsmart find
Saw this little betta at petsmart and just had to grab him because I have never seen one with orange before. I was looking for a reason to throw my little pico tank back together anyway, so I put it together on my book case, I think it looks cool there.
Petsmart had him labeled as a "dragonscale" or some nonsense name like that, it's clearly in between a plakat and a fancier breed. I wonder if they are just selling the rejects from spawns that would normally be culled? Edit: Nevermind I just googled it, I guess dragonscale refers to the scale size not the fins. I still say he's a rejected plaket lol. Regardless I think he's unique so I like him :) I need to get a pic of him flaring, he looks a little dumpy with his fins down lol.

Congrats on the find
I'm looking forward to seeing how he looks after a while in your care.If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Beautiful little guy never seen one colored like that. It looks to be a HMPK, kind of the best of both worlds a little frilly but not so much it cant function like a normal fish.

Dragonscale refers to the scales. Dragons are bred for thicker scales, sharper teeth, better resistance to illness, etc. These are fighting bettas. They're also really cool little critters ^_^ I had an amber-colored dragon betta whose thicker scales were cream-colored with a blue iridescence to them.
You found a pretty little fella ^_^ Love the color. I see blue veils with orange fins from time to time, but they're always gone when I try to purchase one ><

Ha, you know, that actually makes allot of sense. At first I tried keeping him in my soft water community knowing full well he probably wouldn't get along with my wild Paradise fish, but figured it couldn't hurt to try. Well I woke up the next morning to find that he had carved a dime sized chunk clean out of the paradise's tail.... And here I was worried about the betta lol.

Ouch! Poor Paradise Fish.
That betta of yours looks very very similar to the one I recently got, blue orange finned Plakat. He was also a reject because he has a growth on one side of his face that he was born with. Picture of him in my signature. :)
Good luck with your cute new betta.

XD You definitely got one with attitude. Best give him his own spot, so he can be King of the Tank
