I think a large school of tiger barbs would do fine. Might have problems with the Gourami but in a large school shouldn't be a issue.

Congo's should be fine in your tank, a nice school of 8-10 and they could stand their ground with the Wonder twins LOL.

Black Ruby barbs would be cool; they are smaller and not as aggresive by far as tiger barbs.

Well, that's something to think about. The Black Ruby barbs are very beautiful - never seen them before. If things go awry, I'll probably opt for either those or the Tigers. I like seeing active/playful fish. That's certainly something I get out of Serpaes. Congos would be beautiful, but I think they'd be a bit larger for the tank. Might look a little crowded with them.

Have you tried rummynoses yet? They are spectacular in a planted tank like this.

I almost wish I'd got rummynoses instead of cherry barbs so I hope you get them! They look amazing against planted tanks.

Looks like they grow up to 2"... I wonder if they're as slender as a cardinal/neon tetra... For instance, the Serpaes I have are pretty safe with the fish I have, because they have height. Nothing in the tank could possibly eat them, because these little predators' mouths won't open that wide. Anything slender, like the Otos in my 20gal tank, Neons, guppies, etc... could be eaten by the Golden Wonder Killies and possibly Raph cats. I wish they carried them at my LFS, so I could see.

Yep, I just looked it up on AQadvisor, just to see what they had to say... looks like the Gourami and Killies are too aggressive for them. haha

    Oh that's a shame.

I seem to always suggest this fish (an old favourite) and I can't remember if I've suggested it for your tank but what about a large school of Buenos Aires tetra? They are similar to Serpaes in personality...perhaps not so aggressive, but are very active. VERY active. Fast and tight schooling (must be kept in large numbers). Wonderful in a large tank in a large group.

I like those, too. That's one of my original go-tos (Buenos Aires or Congos). Now I'm looking at those Black Ruby Barbs, too... they're quite pretty. Any of these choices would require me to order online, which is probably a better option to Petsmart or Petco.

Ooooo, I've not seen those before - they're nice looking. Really lovely deep colouring. They remind me a little bit of five banded barbs (which I considered when shopping for my cherry barbs).
