I was watching my Gourami tonight and I noticed something a little concerning. He appears to have a red dot (can't really tell if it's raised or not) on his right side. It's difficult to get a clear view of it, but it looks like a red sore of some kind... and hopefully not a parasite. I haven't really noticed any erratic behavior from him, so maybe it's an injury. Going to keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Wish I had a pic to show you, but if anyone has experienced anything like that, please let me know what you think.

Otherwise, all seems fairly well in the tank.

I also noticed some interesting behavior from my GBRs a little earlier tonight. They were in the corner of the tank, together. The female kept shimmying, which seemed to me like a display to show she's ready for mating. Could be wrong - I've never bred them before. Maybe she was just eating... happily. Anyway, I caught it on video. Thinking of starting up a Youtube channel, just so I can share videos on here. Anyway, here's a link to the vid: http://www.kevinbush.com/gbr-pair-female-acting-funny/

Now that's the best video editing I've done so far. lol Getting the hang of this, now.

Anyway, after this, the lights went out and I stopped watching for a bit. Went back later and found the Gourami chasing the GBRs around. It's interesting to see how things go after dark. I love that the Golden Wonders go into submarine mode and descend into the depths, as well. They just hover by a couple of rocks and nobody messes with those guys - not even the Gourami. It looks to me like the GBRs are protecting their territory (which is the rock in the video), and I'm thinking they start a real estate war with the Gourami. He doesn't take it and struts his stuff... he is the big guy of the tank, besides the female Killi. When he's done chasing, he goes back to the largest rock, which creates the ceiling of the cave and hovers there a bit, while eating algae (he never stops eating).

It'd be cool to get a video of things going on in the cover of darkness, but it's difficult getting a good picture, for obvious reasons. And if a light was shone in, they'd revert to normalcy.

Well, I finally decided to start up a Youtube channel and I uploaded my first video (the GBR video). This should make it easier to share with you guys.

    This is my GBR vid:

I've noticed some more interesting behavior amongst the GBRs today, as well. Hadn't been able to get it on video, though. Seems every time I grab my camera, they stop doing what they're doing. I'd shoot for a couple of minutes with no action... then a few minutes later, after having put the camera away, they went back at it. Their behavior seems to have gotten a bit more erratic and even aggressive toward each other. They seem to stare at each other for a long period of time, then the male would move closer and/or look like he's trying to ram her. Then, they circle each other, slapping each other with their bodies, to end up staring at each other again. The male gives chase every now and then, which was fairly typical, but this new behavior is rather intriguing.

I thought it might be mating behavior or territorial disputes, but I asked in the S. Americah Cichlids forum tonight, and found out this could be their natural bonding process. They're testing each other out to see if they want to form a pair, and if they do... I could see some eggs rather soon. I've been advised to start feeding frozen blood worms, which would aid in stimulating this behavior, so I'm going to stop by Petsmart tomorrow and pick some up. =]

GBR babies! That would be awesome!

If I can get a video of their behavior, I'll do so.

Anyway, the other day I posted a crappy picture of my Day 7 of ferts. Today I scrubbed off the diatoms on the front glass and it looks a bit better.

    So, for another comparison:

    Before - Day 3:

    Day 7 - Crappy Pic:

After - Day 8 - Much better pic (and even some changes from day 7):

Nice video kevin. What was the "mood music" in the background LOL?

I always get nostalgic if I see a bubble stream.

Seems your fertilizer is doing the trick, some promising growth there.

lol, I've been thinking of taking out the last bubbler. I had a sponge filter going for a while, where I installed the 2nd canister. The 2nd bubbler is the remnants of that two-pronged air pump. I could probably do away with it, since the tank isn't as heavily planted as before, and I'm using a spray bar now. Hrmmmm

Thanks for checking in, dutchie. I'm glad you see some improvement. I'm hoping I can get this algae under control within the month. =] I'm not certain what happens to dead algae, but I assume that's the browning on the sides/back. If it doesn't wither away w/ death, I'll just scrub them down. I don't want to touch anything, though, until I can see the full effects of the dosing regimen. It's more of a controlled experiment that way. If it works, then I'll know what to do for future tanks, which will lead to less hassle in the long run (hopefully).

The only thing I see missing from your tank is a big school of these:

    Def seeing some differences there.

I bet that if you scrape the algae off, it'll really have a hard time coming back. If you don't want to do the whole tank, you could do a tester square and see what happens. :)

@Steeler, they would be awesome. Such beautiful fish. Only problem is finding something that will do relatively well with Golden Wonder Killies. They're more aggressive than many perceive them to be.

    @Mandy, that's a good idea. I think I'll try it.

Yeah, I think I like the test square idea best now that I think about it. That way you've got the original algae growth to compare against over time. You'll get a good idea of how much the regimen is stopping the process.
