    Thanks Lee. =]

    Lighting/Plant Update:

Well, my fears about my lighting are pretty much gone. While the Cabomba and Parrots Feathers did get a little leggy, I'm noticing new growth sprouting from the stems down below the canopy. That means the new light is definitely penetrating all the way down to the bottom. Which also means that 2 x dual bulb T5HO fixtures were not adequate. Pretty interesting, if you ask me. I need to do some trimming in there and I was getting a little worried earlier last week, but by the end of the week I noticed the new sprouts. Now I'm not worried at all.

    Hey guys,

First, I would like to say that I missed both my 2yr anniversary here on March 2nd and my entrance into the 4,000 posts club (thank you Lee for pointing that out). Now it's official... I'm a jibber-jabber. Can't believe it's already been 2yrs since I started keeping fish and I feel like I've learned so much from you guys and doing endless research (and it really is endless). I don't think it's possible to learn everything there is to know about fishkeeping in the lifespan of a human being. Maybe a Giant Tortoise, or an Ocean Quahog... or possibly an Immortal Jelly, but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun to learn more and more on a daily basis.

Anyway, thanks to everyone that I've become acquainted with! I've met a lot of people here that I'd like to call friend, and while we may never meet, there's something about sharing your hobby with like-minded individuals, regardless of their whereabouts. It's been a great and fun journey!

    Now, about my 20gal Long:

So, I've been thinking about keeping "big" schools of small fish in my 20gal Long, now that my Betta is truly on his last legs. He barely moves anymore... and he's become less and less interested in food over the last couple of days. So, I think it's only a matter of time.

The plan is to keep a heavily planted tank and fill it with two schools of "micro" fish with the same/similar requirements. I also have 8 Otocinclus, 4 Rabbit Snails and 4 Amano Shrimp in there, and it's a temporary holding tank for my lone Serpae Tetra. Well.. temporary is more like permanent, because I'm going to let her live out her life in there, too.

So, here are my current options/choices:

    For a more acidic tank:
    1. Paracheirodon simulans
    2. Jae Barb
    3. Boraras brigittae
    4. Boraras maculata
    5. Sundadanio axelrodi

    For a more neutral tank:
    1. Danio erythromicron
    2. Chela dadyburjori
    3. Danio choprae
    4. Rasbora borapotensis
    5. Sawbwa resplendens
    6. Tanichthys albonubes
    7. Tanichthys micagemmae
    8. Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi

Since my pH ranges between 7-7.2, conditions should be right for most of the neutral tank fish. The only questionable one is the Chela dadyburjori, who likes a more specific 6.5-7.0pH. If I were to go with an acidic tank, I would add peat moss to lower the pH. The Otos should do fine, but I'd probably have to remove the snails and shrimp. Not sure they could handle the more acidic conditions. They would go in my 75gal tank.

Anyway, if you have any thoughts/votes for any of the above, please let me know. I'm also open to suggestions. =]

All very good ideas, good luck narrowing it down, LOL, but that's half the fun.

Here's a few more for you to consider, for a neutral tank. I'm using common names:

    Yellow phantom tetra
    Ember tetra
    Red phantom tetra
    Green rasbora

Congratulations, Kevin. I missed your 4000th post too.

Like you, when our Betta goes the way most bettas do in time, I have been trying to decide if I want to do something like you're doing or go with a pair of GBR in my 15 gal. It's heavily planted now and according to their profile, a pair will do fine in a 15 or 20.
But the idea of micro fish is really intriguing.
You're a much more advanced fish keeper than I am (even though we've been doing this the same amount of time) in that you've got a better handle on the plant and water chemistry issues. I know you could do the acidic tank but if I were to consider your options I'd do the neutral, simply because messing with PH is a slippery slope. But I know you like the challenge~!

Of your list, my favorites in the neutral are 5) Sawbwa resplendens 7) Tanichthys micagemmae

I'm curious why you haven't considered Endlers (Poecilia wingei) or Cyprinidae Rasborinae (Celestial Pearl Danios). Those would be my first choices were I to go that route.

Lee also has some great suggestions.

This will be fun. Keep us posted on what you decide.

    Thanks guys, appreciate it. =]

Nice options, Lee. That green rasbora almost looks died, it's so green. I imagine it's not, though. I really like those Embers and Yellow Phantoms, too. I think the Red Phantoms are nice, but I don't think I could keep a very impressive school of them with another school of a different species.

Cindy, thanks for the vote of confidence. That means a great deal to me, coming from someone with such beautiful tanks and fish. =] Tanichthys micagemmae is one of my faves of the bunch. Amazing how colorful and interesting minnows can be. lol

I have considered endlers in the past. Something about having livebearers turns me off, but they're very beautiful fish. I may have to consider them for this, as well. Every time I see them, I'm envious of those who keep them.
