Thread: Golden Severum

  1. #1

    Default Golden Severum

So, I'm wanting to redo my 65g 4ft tank as a Severum tank. I have many questions.

The tank is currently home to some Kribensis and I really hope to keep them there. There are also 12 Sterba's Cories which I can (reluctantly) move if necessary.

Future planned tank-mates included BN Plecs, and a pair or angels OR group of large schoolers (maybe Black Skirts). I would also be open to ditching any of all of those ideas if anyone has a better idea. Another pair of some cichlid, perhaps? I'm all ears. I like Blood Parrots, Sajica Cichlids, Firemouths, Keyholes, Rainbow cichlids, Eartheaters -- etc, etc. Would love to hear if any of these are compatible with both kribs and severums.

Any suggestions? Tank mates, how I should set the tank up, etc? Or how many Severums I should keep? I was planning on only one but after reading a few websites some people recommend keeping them in groups.

    Please and thank you!

Severums and blood parrots are said to get alone well together. I would nix the angels tho. Since the tank is 48", I think you would be stocked with two parrots and one severum tho.

Thanks LH -- what about my kribs and cories?

They would be fine too but I would not add anymore species than those already mentioned. When you start putting too many species in 48" of swimming area, then you run into problems.

I do not want to overstock this tank at all, and would actually prefer understocking, so I really like your idea.

    - 1 Gold Severum
    - 2 Blood Parrots
    - 2 Kribensis
    - 12 Sterba's Cories

I'm assuming the BPs have to be a mated pair? Also where do they spend the majority of their time in the tank?

I'll have a look tomorrow at the LFS -- better make sure they have some before I go getting all excited!
