Too clean for clams

you're everywhere! jerkiness aside, the clams demanded that i underfilter according to my preferences. my advice is now to avoid clams unless you're going to have a poop tank with circulation and no filtration. they die in water that is filtered to visual perfection. spot feeding combined with filtration is only going to ensure that your clams spend a long time starving to death. my experience is that i started with three dozen clams, and after countless guess and tests, i have zero. i know how to keep them alive and mildly active (for a clam lol) but i dont like what i have to do to keep them alive, it sacrifices the pristine image i strive for. thanks again for all the help! clams are best kept in the wild!

you hear of anything a little hardier than a clam? i know some mollusk species can be a real infestation when introduced in the wild, are there any that are recommended or renowned for success in this hobby?

I appreciate all the information in Smaug's educational post. I've often considered freshwater clams, but wasn't sure of the best way to keep them fed. Now that he has mentioned phyto dripping and underfiltration with heavy planting, I know more of what they need and what I should and shouldn't do. It's nice to know they can still be kept with fish, under the right conditions. Thanks, Smaug!
