The pink stuff is coraline algea. It's a hard calcified algae, very different from all other types of typical algaes that you can get. It's what I would call a good algae as it really starts to thrive once your tank stablizes and your parameters are at least closer to that of the ocean. Every marine system should/will get at least some coraline
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Interesting. I suppose aesthetically it helps all the powerheads and stuff to blend in.

The lion fish and butterfly are getting along great in QT. They are also eating like little scaly pigs. As long as these guys keep doing good, they will come out of QT next weekend.
I’m so excited to be able to take down one of the QT tanks in the basement. LOL, that and being able to look at a tank with fish in it.Last edited by Cliff; 09-30-2012 at 12:55 AM.

Based on my research and talking with three others here (in the city that I live in) that are currently keeping a Mertensii Butterflyfish , and they have found this buttery doesn’t pick at mushrooms or leathers. I know that you can get a fish that (for whatever reason) decide to act and do things totally out of character for them, but I believe the risk to the corals is minimal at the worst. These leathers certainly were not going to do very well in the 180 for some time to come.If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
