Help ! My cichlid is going through a loss of appetite...

Good day everyone

I have a Mayan Cichlid ( over a year old ) but he's lost a lot of appetite.
He used to eat heaps of stuff, but it's been about a 12 day time that he's eating less and less.
He was eating pellets, pond sticks and live insects (fom time to time).

He seems to be the "usual self" but eating much less.
Is it a normal attitude ?
He's also became more aggressive and enjoys digging the gravel, building up a "huge wall" on a side of the tank.

Some just like to dig. Sometimes it's spawning behavior.

But young fish eat more than older fish. With the pellets, pond sticks and bugs, he probably is getting all he wants.

What's in the tank with him (her). I can't tell a sex as I see no breeding tube and also not familiar with this fish.

Big cichlids will go through a period of eating a lot to eating very little. They don't have to eat for 2 weeks. Keep up with the water changes. Vary it's diet a bit more, using boyd's vitachem and soak up some freeze dried krill in it.

Also, you need to set aside 1 day of no feeding at a minimum. Being a year old it doesn't need to eat everyday.

As far as sexing it is difficult to tell without venting or without the opposite sex in there.
