Jury Duty, Again!
I'm just about to start my placement year with my work. Its a kinda managerial course over 48 weeks, then I go back to university for my final 2 years once it is complete.
All was going grand and my 4 week introductory period starts on monday. This morning what comes through the door? My citation for Jury Duty, starting the second week of september!!
I think its a good thing for us all to do our bit, but sheesh, talk about timing! I am getting a letter from work and my University to try and get me an excusal but its not 100% will get it.
I mean that's my second citation and I'm only 20!!
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

I have been called for jury duty once and I am 28. I got out of it because I am a stay at home mom and I have no daycare options for my kids......and they would not have allowed me to bring a one year old and a two year old with. They tried to tell me to send them to temporary daycare......but it costs about double what they pay f or jury duty. I am for my civic duty but I will not pay to do it.

Some judges hate it when people ask to get out of jury duty.

You may get lucky and not have to go. I was on jury duty all of July and August. The way it works here is you call each Monday of your period and they tell you if they need you for the week. I got very lucky and didn't have to go once (it was an hours drive), but the not knowing every week was the worse part, especially for my job since I'm the head mechanic, it made it very had for them to schedule work.

Try to get out of it. There's enough non- working people ( housewives or retirees) out there for that job.

When I was called for jury duty I had to fill out a card and answer some questions. On it I basically insulted the defense attorneys as being "scumbag lawyers that get criminals free" and how impressive the District Attorneys and Prosecutors were, saying how they were cool "like on tv".
So that day my number was selected and as I sat there while the lawyers were going through the cards and deciding I could see the defense attorney reading my card to the perp; I was close enough to hear him while he motioned toward me~~~and I had a freshly-shaved head and my usual suspicious look and it was easy to see he wasn't going to agree to have me on his jury.
That was about 15 years ago; I'm 47, lived in this town for a quarter-century now, and have never been called back.10: Harlequin Raspboras, Otos, CAE

Well that's a nice attitude. Guilty until proven innocent? Let's hope you never need a defence lawyer.

I think we should all be willing to do our duty but some circumstances at certain times make it most difficult. Just starting school or just starting a new job would be one of them. Or being a contractor with a job that must be done that week. Or a family reunion that had been planned for a year.
There are times we are available and times we are not. Here no one even gets asked once they get 62. What's up with that? They can sit for hours playing bingo put can't sit in a chair in the courthouse? I'd much rather be called now than I would have been when I had to bring home the bacon.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

I love jury duty
I am on salary so I get my normal pay, the school cannot take any of my personal days for missing work because of a summons, I get paid for jury duty, and after the case is over for the day I get to go home by around noon. It is a pretty sweet deal for me, I wish I would get called again.

I'd do it in a heartbeat right now. I don't do anything else and would find it kind of fun. I'd also be making a bit of money instead of just spending it.
