  1. Unhappy change medicine for velvet?

Hi I've been treating my betta for velvet (and fin rot) since August 13th with Ick Guard as per the advice here at AC.
His fin rot has definitely improved but he still has velvet. Is there another medicine I should try?
    Thank you.

Have you also tried darkening the tank? I have successfully treated velvet with increased temperatures, salt and darkness.

Did you remove the charcoal from your filter?

Thanks. I have him in a small tank in my kitchen which is dark and warm-the light in the room only goes on an hour or so in the evening. Also, I do not have a filter in this tank. I do full water changes every other day or so.

Perhaps that's the problem? All those water changes? If this medication is not working for the Velvet, perhaps you need to try another brand altho Ick Guard is supposed to be very good.
Raising the heat would work as Aeon mentioned but you have no heater so guess you have to use the medication.

With Velvet, they are to get NO light and the tank is supposed to be in a total blackout.
NO LIGHTS does not mean a few hours a day.

I did some reading on Velvet and Cooper meds are supposed to work very well but you have to be very careful as some fish don't do well with it. But Velvet just might need a stronger med to get the job done. Did you add an airstone since there is no filter?

Do not use your fish net from tank to tank either. Drop it in the tank that is medicated so you aren't transferring the velvet tank to tank.
