  1. Default How do you find out...

What kind of filter and light you have?

I'm afraid I didn't pay much attention to that when setting up the tank!

I bought the tank as a kit and I know it's made by Hagen, so I'm guessing that's what brand all the accessories are, but how do you know what power/size/what-have-you they are?

The filter is the kind that hangs on that back (is that what HOB is short for?) and uses store-bought filter cartridges.

The light is a fluorescent tube that says Aqua Flo or Aqua Gro BioPlant 15W.

    Thanks!!!

You kind of answered your own question....just look on the piece of equipment and it tells you.

Sorry, I should've mentioned: I looked on the filter, but couldn't find any brand name or other info. It just occurred to me though: I'll check the instruction manual it came with. Maybe that'll have some info!

Also, I tried Googling the light name, but couldn't find any more info on it. (Mostly I want to know if it's a good light for my plants or not.)

    Thanks!

Ack! I think I posted this in the wrong forum! I meant to put it in the technical forum!

Anyway, I got the name wrong on the light (I should've written it down so I wouldn't get it wrong!). It's actually an Aqua-Glo light. It's supposed to be good for growing plants (and my plants ARE growing ), so I guess I'm okay there.

The filter, still can't figure it out.

Maybe you could look on the Hagen website and see if they have the kit you have on there with some specifications on the filter and such.

Also, most kits I've seen don't have the greatest filters included. Normally they are rated for the exact size of tank you have and most folks here would tell you that you can never have enough filtration so they get filters rated for a bigger tank than they have. Like I have a AquaClear 50 (for 50gallon) on a 20g and a AC 20 on a 5g. That being said, the filter you got will probably serve you quite well if you don't overstock your tank and later when you're feeling cashy you can upgrade if you want but there's no need to right away.

I don't know much about lighting so I can't help too much there.
    My tank:
20g long - 8 Trigonostigma heteromorpha, 2 Corydoras brevirostris, 2 Corydoras agassizii, 1 Corydoras trilineatus named Julian

Is it possible to get a picture or two of the filter?
Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can pay the rent.

    Thanks, guys!

I'll see if I can get a picture later.

I did check on Hagen's website, but couldn't find a match.

According to the instruction manual (which just has a part number, no name or other identifying info!), it's for a 10-20 gallon tank. Other than that...????

I thought it was an Aqua Clear too, but it looks nothing like the pictures on Hagen's website.

I'll post some pics later, but first I have to go make dinner, etc.
