I've had 20 African Cichlids in a 55 Gallon tank for the past 3 years. I love how awesome an overstocked tank looks and the fish have been doing incredible!

I just recently bought a 29 gallon tank for our guest bedroom and I was wondering what type of small fish can I stock a 29 gallon with so that there can be tons of them. I want to keep it to one species.

I think it would look neat to have 20-30 tiny fish schooling in a 29 gallon tank. So what are some species that I can accomplish this with?

I'd go with some members of the crustacean family that don't have giant fish-killing claws attached to their front arms, personally. Cherry shrimp if you want color or amano shrimp if you want some size.

As for the fish themselves, what about guppies? You could have a lot of them and they could have different colors, tail sizes, etc.

You guys are right... i looked them up and they are omnivores.. they are opportune feeders that will eat anything they can find, plant or animal.

I guess I just thought they looked cool. I researched it some more and I saw that the blue crayfish is pretty good with larger fish.
