110g Giant Snakehead Tank Build

So, I finally got around building a new home for my juvenile Giant Snakehead.

Took me a while and I had to make some changes and get the pump replaced because of a leak.

That's all the stuff I needed for the build, PVC piping, glue, drift wood, gravel etc.
In the end I used more stuff than in this pic.

The Tank

Two 10 liter pond filters, rated for 4000L ponds each.

The "guts" of the filters, 7W UV light, sponges and 18 bio balls.

First I had to build the intake and outlet for the tank. I used PVC pipes with 32mm diameter and glued them together. (I used a large diameter to move lots of water without blowing the fish out of the water. The pump does 2880l/h)
That's how it looked at the beginning. (I added a ball valve at the top of the intake now to avoid draining the whole tank when disconnecting the pump. That part is not in the pic.)

Clips at the back of the stand to hold the pipes in place.

Next I had to drill two holes in the walls dividing the stand. I have no idea why the manufacturer didn't do that before. How am I supposed to connect the intake and outlet, if there are solid walls in between?

Then I cut out the background and stick in on with double sided tape. I used a "seascape", because I think it looks more natural than black.

That's how it looks with background and plants.

After everything is connected the sump looks like this. Connecting the green hose to the large PVC pipes was a royal PITA.

The gar is only there temporary till he grows a bit bigger, then he goes in the pond.

To do: Get a new pump, the current one uses 100W power. I ordered one that can do the same job with 25W.

cool! We don't get to see many snakehead tanks since they're banned in the US.

Isn't a snakehead a "natural" fish too? They aren't banned here.

Hobbs is just referring to the US, I'm sure. They're banned here because they could conceivably wreak havoc in the native watersystems. Of course there are lots of responsible aquarium owners out there who would never be dumb enough to release a fish like this, but unfortunately all it takes is a few idiots to ruin it for the rest of us.
