Haha, I knew you were reading through the old posts because I started getting "thumbs up" on things that were back in the past. Glad you enjoyed it. I was going to make a crack about you reading it while you're supposed to be working, but guess where I'm typing this from?

Next update will be about the moonlights. Would be doing it now but I failed to upload one of the images I need.

Football hasn't started, hockey is over, baseball bores me but know I have Women's FIFA and Brhino journal to keep me entertained Now what can we do about work?

Anyways I'm in NYC and part of an aquarium society so if you need any help with your stock list, I'm more then happy to look around here for you . Sometimes the shipping might be cost effective. You never know.

My nearly-free moonlights arrived yesterday! They consist of three 20" tubes, each of which mounts 30 LEDs, with short lengths of cord at either end to plug them all in together.

The design is simple but effective. There's a long circuit board in the tube that the LEDs and wires are soldered into. There are plugs on the end of the tubes and the wires and connectors are insulated, which makes the whole thing pretty water-safe. I'm not going to go submerging them but they should be immune to any kind of splashes.

They came with little mounting brackets but since I don't have a canopy yet I don't have much to mount them to, except maybe the floor joists that the fluorescent lights are hanging from. For the time being I've just got them sitting on top of the tank.

So it's really hard to photograph a moonlit tank, but here's more or less what it looks like. It's definitely still pretty bright with them on. Certain things seem to take on different colors. The substrate almost seems to be glowing white, and the clown loaches look black. Very cool looking. In the time I spent watching last night, the pleco didn't come out, but the one loach that hides all day did. I tried to take another video similar to the previous timelapse that had both night and dark, but I messed up the settings on the camera and it didn't work.

Looks really nice! I love my moonlights.. gives you a totally new tank to enjoy because, as you said, many things have a whole new look to them with the Blue light.

The pump I'm thinking about replacing is getting a measured flow rate of 1200 GPH in my setup, so I'm already getting more than I would with the CA4000.
I thought the CA4000 would be a bit weak also, but I get an almost perfect "trickle" for my dual towers. If I go much stronger the water would be gushing through them. I like higher flow rates for mech filtration and lower flow rates for bio filtration (more contact time). I'll try to get a vid of the flow through my wet/dry towers.
    your friendly neighbourhood arowanaman!
