Outstanding purchase!! I wish you the best of luck in getting it set up and looking good!!

A 300G is my goal for a big tank, then I could house a Giant Gourami
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Crispy and Cliff have been helping me plan out the sump and plumbing for the tank, so lots of thanks to them.

One thing that I'm thinking hard on is the background. As is it's black acrylic, which is pretty good. What I would really like, though, is a 3d background. I could hide stuff in it and when they're done well they just look amazing. Some concerns, though:

    1. I don't have a lot of confidence in my ability to DIY a background. I can DIY something technical like a filter well enough, but something more artistic like a background? Not so much.
    2. You can buy 3D backgrounds, but they don't make them this big. I saw a thread on MFK where someone expanded a 3D background to fit a 300 gallon tank, but again - artistic ability. Not to mention (non-DIY) 3D backgrounds are EXPENSIVE. I could easily end up spending as much on the background as I did on the tank itself. Bleah.
    3. 3D backgrounds are... three dimensional! I know, right? 3D backgrounds leave less room for fish. Some of the more detailed ones can stick out 6-8" or more. I know it's a big tank but I don't want to lose a quarter of the space on the background.

So, I don't know what I'm going to do about a background yet.

I've seen some 3d backgrounds which were attached behind the tank. Again, given your DIY artistic disability, maybe your wife/friend/relative would like to do the design part, then you could build it from their design?

In any case, what I saw was a 6" 3D background attached on the outside of the tank. Gave the look of 3D, but of course the fish didn't have access to it. It would save you real estate tho. I'll see if I can find that thread but I don't think I will be able to...

didn't find the DIY thread, but did run across this... http://www.designsbynature.net/produ...deluxe-3d-bgs/

If I get a megatank like that I would want the back to be black anyways. I would think getting a background up through your access holes might be very difficult.

I think you should keep your eyes out for some mega sized driftwood that you could use to scape the tank. I know you said you dont want a full planted tank.....but I have some anubis nana that I wedged in cranks in my mopani and it looks pretty good and doesnt grow super fast.

How about substrate? You are going to need a lot. Pool sand would be cheap but the black moon sand would make those clown loaches pop.

You are making me so jealous. My clowns in my 125 have just started putting on some size. Your clowns are going to love their new mansion.
