  1. Default What is growing at the base of my balansae?

I've been carefully watching my plants grow over the last three weeks and I recently noticed something growing from around my balansae. I have java moss, dwarf sagittaria, a melon and ruffle sword, green myrio, and dwarf hairgrass elsewhere in the tank. What's growing around the base of my balansae doesn't look like anything else I have, at least to me.

At first I thought it might be the roots because I had trouble getting them all into the substrate. However, they appear to be growing upwards. I'm new to this, though, so I'm prepared to be completely wrong.

    Thanks.

Looks like some sort of plant, though I'm not entirely sure. What is your lighting? It could just be a runner that ended up over there. Or it might even be part of the plant-not sure.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I have a dual high output T5 fixture with a 6,700K and a 10,000K bulb. I'm having some problems with algae, though, so I'm thinking of switching out the 10,000K. The tank is a 25 gallon, by the way.

During a water change I gave this thing a little tug and it seems to be attached to the balansae. I thought they typically reproduced using stolons, so I'm a little confused.
