Hello
Hello,
Not sure where I put my tank bio so here goes:-
Beta Lifespace 1200 with sump
Sump:-
Wet Dry Trickle down overflow with Bioballs and Foam
Heater 30 Degrees C
Seachem Activated Carbon
Rowaphos for PO4 and SiO2
Huge amount of Ceramic Biological Media/ Foam and Boi Balls
Tunze River Pack - Recirculating round ceramic media
Fluidized Sandbed Filter (For good measure - OTT I know!)
Tank:-
Peat Base (Ph 6.5) 13GH 4KH
Lots of Bog wood and plants
CO2 Injection & Tunze wave pump to add circulation (timed 15 min on 30 min off)
Fish:-
4 x Otocinculus (Buying 4 more soon as they aren't bothering discus)
1 x Bristlenose Catfish (Very Juvenile)
6 x Coryadoras Juli
2 x German Blue Rams (Pair)
18 x Cardinal Tetras
6 x Lemon Tetras
5 x Discus (Blood Pigeon 2.5", Marlboro 2.5", Sunset Yellow 4", Electric Blue 3", Brown Discus 3.5") - 2 pairs have formed - one has laid eggs on filter!
Discus finally at peace and have established pecking order
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 15 to 20
Feeding -
Home made beefheart mix (Beefheart, blanched spinach, cooked carrots, peas, omega 3, flake, vits and some liver)
Tetra Pro colour Flake
Hikari Sinking pellets (Even Discus love them)
Frozen Bloodworm (as a treat)
Live adult brine shrimp (as a treat)
Had a brown algae issue - not overly from waste excess but rather the depth of the tank and lighting (6xT5 42" Flourescent bulbs) - and not using them all at once - more light rather than less has helped - as have the bristlenose and oto's - so this is well under control now. Lights on 5 hours off one on 5 hours
off over night.
Water changes are 20% twice a week with lots of vacuuming
Thanks
Tom

This was 3 weeks after adding plants and 1 week adding first fish - was about 2-3 months ago - have added lots more plants since then and a tunze wave pump to circulate co2 - discus have grown hugely since now that I look at it - will post an update with filtration etc soon - good luck with the fish keeping!
