41 Gallon Tank Stocking Options

Hey guys!

I need some help with stocking a 41 gallon tank, admittedly i'm clueless when it comes to coldwater fish since i'm more of a tropical fish guy however a school near me has a 41 Gallon tank and they're only interested in having a cold water setup as they do not want any extra cost so here i am!

I'm not too bothered about goldfishes, i understand it should be 20G for the first one and 10 after that for any additional ones, i'm looking for one set of schooling fish (i've read mixed stories about the white cloud minnows so not too sure about them), a couple of bottom feeders and uh...i'm not sure, just fishes which will light the tank up nicely and something that the kids will enjoy really.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I know the white cloud minnows are a sure for cold water. Neon tetras will also go as low as 68 I believe but thats kind of pushing it.

Not sure about the other fish... plecos definitely need the heat.

How about a couple of the fancy goldfish and a bunch of the white clouds?

And I do not mean common goldfish, comets or Moors. The goldfish size chart is in my signature as well as the cycling links but the fish I listed do not even belong in 20 gallons.

I recommend white clouds. In fact, I just bought some today. They're lovely little fish and of all the times I've had them, I've never seen anything aggressive/sickly/just plain wrong about them. They're hardy and active and look gorgeous in large groups, which you could definitely have in a tank that big.

My spouse has comets in her pond where it occasionally freezes. She doesn't feed them when the water temperature is below mid-50s F. They seem to be thriving.

Moors survive but don't seem to thrive. She has removed them from the pond. Common guppies will survive down to about 46°F.
