Sick or constipated
One of my little africans (about 2.5") has been shaking or convulsing for about half a day now the others are fine the water hasnt changed but I did start a new food in the rotation. I feed a varied diet of flakes pellets & frozen foods and just added spectrum cichlid formula thats the only change in about a month. I checked and the water is good no ammonia or nitrites less than 20 nitrates ph 7.2 (no change) gh & kh 5-6 (no change). I use API tests. Lost.
I need to buy some moonlights so I dont wake up my fish cuz I cant stop lookin!

If they are mbunas, I don't think giving them frozen food (like bloodworms or brine shrimps) because these have too high protein content than they can digest. So it might be bloat because of that.

What kind of African is the fish?
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

2.5" is just big enough to perhaps be doing the dance for the females. Convulsing /shaking is kinda odd behavior for food illness, I think...tho Paul is right concerning the food for mbuna.
I'd be more likely to think he's trying to impress the ladies. Is the fish alone when he shakes, or does he follow other fish around?
