Thread: need help

  1. Default pages

they were merged usually when i test i test for everything and yes i do use liquid for nitrates i was also trying to raise theph to become more nuetral, i'm beginning to think i messed up somewhere in the process and i must redo the tank my previous tank i just through everything together and that was a fualt i'm trying to correct i'm trying to get away from guppies

  2. Default two problems

i thhink i stuffed upduring the fishless cycle the other is one of my friends tropical angelfish tank the breeding pair is in the mating part so he gave me his third angel any suggestions on how i can change my tank besides doing an 80 % wc and starting from there

  3. Default

I don't know about the rest but I've lost track of your issue/challenge/question. Oh, and please don't take this the wrong way, it's meant as a constructive suggestion but your posts would be easier to read if you'd form sentences starting with a capital letter and ending with a .

How about a new post trying to state what you have now and what you want to do? A few pics if the tank is already set up. I'm getting the impression you're having problems making up your mind.

  4. Default problems/issues

No problem. I know i type as i think so it is quite hard for people to follow at times.
    1. i dont know if my cycle has stalled. heres my test results
    no3 0
    no2 0
    ammonia 0
    gh <3
    kh 3
    ph 6.4
Temp in tank holing at 26 degrees centigrade
    temp in room 10
    temp outside 4
weather conditions is a cold front for the next 2 days. In the last month of winter here
If so must i do an 80% water change

The other problem is one of my friends gave mea angelfish his pair is in the beginning of the mating stage and becomeing more aggresive as they set up in his 50g us.

Never knew it got so cold in South Africa.

OK, stalled cycle. Not sure, what happens if you add a little ammonia? Lady Hobbs is our leading authority on cycling. Read her guide and a few similar threads on stalled cycles.

That test kit should be ok. I know Sera, it's good stuff.

The angle.. read up on it. You need a tall tank with a bit of swimming space. What the Americans call a 20 high. In metric, I'd say preferable a meter wide and 40cm high.

Angles can get aggressive and nasty towards other fish. They are also not a good idea with fin nippers like tiger barbs. Question is, do you want one fish to influence your other choices?

  7. Default fish

an angel is one fish i always wanted to keep and i will be upgrading my tank early next year. I can't really get rid of the angel, the other fish i would love to keep is the red tailed shark will just have to hold off till i get a bigger tank to fit them in. I was thinking of getting some peppered cories for the bottom.
    any ideas will be welcome.
the tank i will be getting next year is 120 long width 45 height 45
if i add amonnia less than five hours its gone, thats a dose of 4 ppm

If you want an angel then go for it. The tank that you want next year is certainly big enough.

No idea on the shark though.

It sounds like your cycle is done.

The ammonia is getting consumed it sounds like. Thats good. What about your nitrIte tho? I still don't see a reading for it in your params. Not no3 or nitrAte, but nitrIte. I'd agree that it sounds like you are prob cycled, but you should check the nitrite just to be sure the second stage of the cycle is working.

As far as how to keep the angel and rts happy till your tank upgrade someone else will have to answer. I've never owned either. All I know is they can both be aggressive so keep a close eye on them.
