Mine do guard shady areas of the tank...like areas under anubia leaves or in the shadows of bogwood. I'm not sure what to suggest with yours...I'd say it was normal behaviour, but not heard of them guarding caves. Is he making it a nightmare for all your other fish? How many do you have and what's the tank size?

I've got the same sized tank for my cherry barbs. I'm sure things will settle down. He might just be desperate to breed (mine always seem to be!)

Have you tried moving the cave and your other decor to different areas of the tank? This always worked with my saltwater tank in the past.
