First Sandpit Attempt...Opinions?

For my next tank, I am using gravel, but want a sandpit for my Kuhlis. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions on this idea?

Using a shallow reptile terrarium water dish elevated above the substrate and sand-filled.

Thoughts? I want something natural-looking (the dish is plastic, but a rock imitation), so no flower pots, dog dishes etc.

I have added small dunes behind ornaments or in corners of the tank. In my experience, some like to bury themselves together and some like their own space lol so I give them options.
