Multi Fry!!!!

I'm keeping a sharp lookout. I haven't seen anymore yet. Today is tank cleaning day. I'm afraid to disturb the shells, though, so I'll probably just siphon around them... maybe use a turkey baster? I'm not sure yet what to do.

I've been worried for the past week (since I last cleaned their tank) that I lost my little baby. I haven't seen him, even though I was very careful not to disturb him or his shell. Well, tonight I found him being safely guarded by his mother and father in the shell they've been guarding for the past week on the other side of the tank. I also found a new batch of newborns in the same shell and surrounding it! I've seen at least two new fry so far, but I think there are more! They are spread between two neighboring shells, as far as I can see. I'm so happy!

Don't worry if you don't see them for a while. You're probably only seeing a small fraction of the fry you actually have. You'll probably never see all the fry at once. I used to kill all the lights in the room, and leave the tank lights on, add a bit of food tot he tank and grab a chair and wait a good 10min before the tank got real active.

That's promising. The only thing that really worried me is the fact that a Julidochromis Transcriptus is also in the tank with them. A natural barrier divides him from the multies, though, and the multies are very good about keeping him away from their area. I don't think it will pose a problem, but we are moving the Julie in a couple months to a separate 20g that will come open just in case.

Well, I've had several small families so far since my last update, but my Julies kept getting to them. The Julies killed all the fry. I've since moved my Julies to a tank of their own, and my fry ar surviving! This pic I posted earlier was of her first brood. For a while, she would only have one or two fry at a time hatch. I just found her first brood since removing the Julies, and she has at least 5! I'm so happy that her broods are increasing, and now that the Julies are out, they should make it, no problem! :)

I counted 7 for sure, possibly 8 fry today! They are much more daring than the last group (I'm assuming since there are a larger number of them, and the other species have been removed from the tank). They are extremely small still, definitely hatchlings, but they are trying to venture out of the shell already. I took a video (I apologize for the poor camera quality), so check it out!
