Heck of a thing to do to a young fish by adding it to a tank with 2 aggressive cons.

Oh man. Tire-track eels are the most peaceful fish on the planet, and will only attack like that if they feel extremely threatened. He doesn't belong in that tank, he can't burrow in the gravel and he's being constantly attacked by cons. Im normally not the type to get emotional over fish, but eels are super intelligent and I feel for them more then most. I felt terrible watching this video

if you want the eel to have a chance at all, you need to remove the cons.

I see you have gotten rid of the convicts. he looks well, but a little skittish. he should have the attitude that he owns the tank. good job keeping him for a year.

I will rehome my eel in a larger tank when he out grows his current home. Im running an external Fluval 205 canister filter witch is more than enough for my tank. I have a deep 4inc sand and substrate bed. Im planning to revamp the look of this tank, by painting the beach trim - black and changing the background from blue to black and redoing the inside of the tank
