type of dempsey??
Hey all
While I'm not new to the aquarium hobby, I am new to Dempsey's. To be honest ive never seen one turn so orange, but again Dempsey's are my newest endevor. Just curious if it was a special type, if it was female, or if its just a normal flooring option for Dempsey's?
Any info is much appreciated.
Thanks all.

would someone be willing to give me the scientific name? Or even just a link so I could read up on it. that's what I get for buying a fish from 1 of my local fish stores. Lol. looks like it will be a very pretty fish though so I'm happy to have it.
Thanks again

ok, did some of my own research once i got to work. My next concern i suppose is this. I had planned to keep him and my actual JD in the same tank. I know they are both nice and agressive, quick growing, and quasi-similar in size.
Can i pull off keeping the two of them together in one of my larger tanks? Or am i going to have a central american cichlid death match on my hands in 6 months?
Ive always kept Africans (with the ocasional SA mixed in), so the CA cichlids are a whole new ball game for me. Ive got several set ups so im not new by any means to the aquarium hobby, just brand new to CA's and especially to ones i didnt realize i was buying!!! lol

It all depends on aquarium size.A JACK and devil can get along together, but in a small tank(under 90 gallons)it would most likely end in death for one occupant. With all that being said, every fish has it's own personality. With lots of rockwork(or other fancy decor)and driftwood, the territory perimeters will have a better chance of being respected.

Skull,
Thanks for the thoughts. I couldnt agree more on the fish personality. Ive mixed a tank of africans, sa's and even a combtail gourmi (sp) (which by the way just about runs that tank) and they all live happily. These guys are small enough yet that for now im just going to let it play out and see what happens.
Thanks again for the info.
