ich in clown loach tank
I've just discovered a loach with ich in my clown tank. Tank is a 70 gallon with clown loaches, zebra danios, and some RCS. RCS and to a lesser degree the danios are expendable. What do you folks recommend for treatment?
300 gallon mega tank: build in progress
75 gallon community tank: tetras, danios, corys, platies, otos, pearl gouramis, bristlenose pleco, assassin snails, red cherry shrimp, bamboo shrimp
70 gallon growout tank: clown loaches, sailfin pleco
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish
29 gallon frog tank / 10 gallon tadpole tank: 1 leopard frog, 1 tadpole
10 gallon and 5.5 gallon betta tanks: 1 male betta each, sometimes snails

When I got my clowns and I put them in a 30 gallon qt they had ich in the bag before I even got them in the house. I used jungle labs ick guard two for sensitive fish. It worked really well and I only dosed it at about half of what it said. I have no idea what it would do to the shrimp but the zebras should be fine. All loaches are now happy and in a 125 till they get bigger.
Good luck. And I only found it at one store I go to....I did find you can order it online but either the shipping is high or the product is. One 2 oz bottle is supposed to treat 120 gallons of water and I used less than one bottle treating a 30 gallon tank.

Any med that's a ich killer will do the rcs (I assume red cherry shrimp). Salt and elevated temps are your choice for now.

I thought salt was bad for loaches.

Ich is a whole lot more bad for them. Salt isn't good for any fw fish long term. You could just elevate temps if your not comfortable with salt. Use a stress coat during this time to help with irritation and infection.

well like I said my first priority is saving the loaches. If you think ich medication is the best way to do it then I'm not terribly concerned about the shrimp. I only put them in there in the first place to make sure the water was okay - they're like an infestation that I don't mind. If salt and heat is best, I can do that, or just heat... whatever you think gives me the greatest chance to helping out the loaches.

I have honestly never used salt. I have lways used quick cure by api. I have used it in my planted tank which is stocked with mostly cat fish ,tetra and a few yoyo loach. I have never lost a fish when using quick cure. If you are positive its ich and you don't mind the shrimp being wiped out the quick cure works great. Get hobbs opinion about salt and heat, she has experiance with that process. Let me know if you want to use qc and ill give you mine.

The jungle labs ick guard 2 I used did not kill off me pond snail population but I dont know how that would relate to shrimp.

Do you have a smaller tank for your shrimp because shrimp cannot get ich. Just to put them in there for awhile at a higher elevated temp just to be extra safe.

I used Ick Guard 2 for my tetra's, etc, but I can not tell you how the shrimp will react to it but I also can not tell you how the salt and heat will work for them either. I think I'd try to move out as many of the shrimp as possible until the tank is done being treated.
