    Default help with 40 gallon

    0 Not allowed!
I found a new lfs today that is a refreshing change from Petsmart and discovered several new fish that I would love to have. I am trying to finish stocking my 40 gallon (kept 78-80 degrees). It currently has 11 cardinals, 5 glass catfish, 5 peppered corys and 1 german blue ram. I definitely will be adding a second ram but I am looking for something else since the tank still seems empty with the glass catfish in hiding all day/night. Would any of these work in my tank? (I would only be looking into adding 1 more species)

    Emperor tetra
    Silvertip tetra
Pearl danio (do they prefer cooler temps?)
    threadfin rainbowfish
    black neon tetra
    brilliant rasbora
scissortail rasbora (they get big, would they overstock?)

    Thanks!

Why not add some fish that inhabit the upper tank? Like Harlequin rasboras or marble hatchets? This way your tank looks fuller but the fish aren't all in the same space. Both Harlequins and hatchets are school species so stock accordingly.

it's my temp that has me questioning what to stock. The tank stays at 80 with no heater and the hood off. I sometimes have to float ice bottles to keep it there. Can't wait for cooler weather! I have looked at hatchets but their look kind of freaks me out.

My 55 gallon tetra community tank has been at 80 -84 degrees this past two weeks and the fish are all fine. I too have an airstone to get more O2 into the water. It's tough to cool down a tank when the weather makes it so warm.

Here is what I would do:

    8 Peppered Cories
    15 Cardinal Tetras
    15 Black Neons
    6 Glass Catfish
    2 Rams

Keeping with an amazonian theme(minus the glass cats of course), I would also add a Clown Pleco...just because they are awesome little plecos.

upping my cardinals appeals to me. I actually had been eyeing black neons at the lfs but when I went to get them, they were gone. They had been there for 2 months and disappear the day I decide on them-what luck! I think I'm leaning towards a school of emperors. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Also, on another note, would adding another glass cat get my 5 out of hiding? I would love to SEE them once in awhile.

The more the merrier. You can increase their comfort in the tank by providing some floating plants and increasing their numbers. I would try adding another one...which may do the trick.
