You can put a cucumber in the bottom of your tank leave it over night and it will have a lot of the snails on it in the morning.

Put a tablespoon of Alum [It's a pickling spice available at any grocery store] per gallon of your container, Use a bucket or tub large enough to hold all your plants and decor. Mix well.
Soak for 36 or 48 hours, Rinse well with dechlor water and replant in their new home.
Safe, Easy, Effective & Kills snails and their eggs.

Right on 850. And if he's in a bigger hurry and doesn't want to wait that long, he can use 3 T. for a shorter time period. (I just did this two days ago.) I don't measure, tho. I just fill a bucket with water, toss in the alum, stir it and toss in the plants.

- I never measure either but it needs to sound somewhat systematic.

I'm not sure I'd use alum with loaches going in the tank. Wouldn't want to risk it due to their intolerance of salts and chemicals. I thought loaches were supposed to be natural born snail predators anyways.

Alum is not a chemical. I put it in my pickles when I can them. Keeps them crisp.

mm hmm from wiki-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alum
Alum ( /ˈæləm/) is both a specific chemical compound and a class of chemical compounds. The specific compound is the hydrated potassium aluminium sulfate (potassium alum) with the formula KAl(SO4)2·12H2O. The wider class of compounds known as alums have the related empirical formula, AB(SO4)2·12H2O.
Not trying to be a jerk, just don't want to kill the loaches.

Not trying to be a jerk but.... You are aware that the Alum is NOT going directly into the tank right?

There is always Potassium Permanganate as well. Alum is just easier to find. Bleach is another one but bleach isn't always nice to plants.
