  1. Default White cloud mountain minnows

This may be in the wrong section as I'm not 100% sure White clouds are chachrins (I may also have spelt chachrins wrong ).

Does anyone know if the gold variety of WCMM will school with the normal variety? I have four ordinary white clouds and would like to add some gold clouds for colour variation but I don't want to have 2 schools of minnows and not a lot of room for any other types of fish. I was thinking maybe 4 of each would make a nice school of 8 (if they will).

Also has anyone heard of emerald White cloud mountain minnow? My LFS have just started stocking them but they look identical to the normal ones to me only a slight shade darker. I wondered if they'd just bred the darker colour minnows and were trying to use clever advertising to sell what's often an unpopular "filler" fish.

They should school just fine, as they are only color variations and not a different species.

They are not characins, but cyprinidae (same family as barbs, carps, other minnows, and danios)!

Thanks aquacats that means I can fit more variety in my tank .

As for what group minnows are in I knew it began with a c but that was about the extent oft knowledge

Thanks to whoever moved this thread to the right section.

They will most likely interbreed also, so I wonder what the fry would look like. No idea what the emeralds are unless it is a new seller's name for the Vietnamese subspecies of WCMM.

  5. Default

I never thoughof them interbreeding. I was going to get 1 male of each type and make up the numbers with females in the hopes they'd breed and stock my tank for me but the idea of randomly mixed fry is pretty cute.

If you get a chance, get the high fin minnows. They're called Meteor minnows and are sooooo cute tearing around with that red flag up.

Ooh they sound great too. I think I'm going to end up with a tank full of nothing but minnow variations

Would they interbreed with the others too? I could make a gold coloured long finned version.
