need tips on lionfish

Anyone have any tips on weening a lionfish off live food onto frozen foods.

It's easy as pie. I diden't ween, i forced mine off live. Let him/her go hungry for a few days, then feed using forceps. Mine got squid, shrimp and Octopus I buy in bulk from the ethnic supermarket and cut up into bite size chunks/strips...

I use a small clear piece of sharp plastic and put the food on that. Dance it in front of the lion and make it target and hit the prey item. Use a real good vitamin supplement like vitachem marine or others and soak the item in it to absorb the vitamins.

Ok I'll keep trying with the frozen. So far I can get the lionfish to look at the shrimp or scallop's I'm offering but it won't come after it or eat. In case I can't get it to accept the frozen how long is to long between feedings.

When you say frozen, I hope your defrosting it first. Squid rings are dirt cheap (calimari). Defrost a ring and cut into a longish strip(s), dangle in front of it and it should go for it. As far as I know, they can go over a week without eating, mine went 5 days and gave in...

I have found that if I keep Lions that I like to have a small container of Bo Peep ammonia around close by.

I have been stung by them in the past and a quick application of Bo Peep to the wound was very helpful.

It coagulates the protein of the toxins and stops them from traveling in your system.

yea I thaw everything first. I'm not really worried about it yet I'm going on day 5 since it last ate. At this point I'm more worried about the snowflake eel overeating. I will have to get some squid and try that.

LOL My snowflake is a gluton as well. He will grab a chunk out of the Black edge Eels mouth and its 4 times his size! My avatar is a picture of the Black...

My snowflake is one of my favorites when I see it. I haven't found anything it won't eat. The lion fish is still being picky though I guess I need to work on my presentation with the thawed food.
