No worries, Not a feather out of place here.

As far as I know though, Nobody here speaks for Hagen or is involved in the packaging, marketing & selling of the items you are inquiring about and you hadn't mentioned going that route. It seems worth pursuing it at the source so I mentioned it.

Indeed; however, I took the chance of perhaps running into someone on the site that may have had experience with these "replacement" BioMax rings already and could have told me one way or the other if the smaller rings and dual sacks was in fact "normal"...

I was not implying that someone here can "speak for Hagen" or was "involved in the actual packaging of the product" at the factory, et al...

The AquaClear series changed about a year and a half ago. Maybe two and a half. Time flies.

Packaging and box art changed. The media pack was changed then too.
    Why? Ask Hagen.
It had something to do with changing the number of "stages" of filtering or cleaning.
I didn't pay much attention as I was busy stocking up on the clearance pricing on the old stock, all the stores were trying to get rid of. ;-)

Thanks very much for the info, dbo -- THIS is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for...

As for the AquaClears, I purchased my 110 about two years ago -- are you saying Hagen changed the media preparations and pieces since that time? So when you purchase a filter, inside the box comes the BioMax as very small ceramic rings rather than the larger ones for the single net sack? They changed all their BioMax to come in pre-packaged, smaller sacks?

I know Hagen changed the AC series in terms of naming -- such as the "500" model becoming the "110" -- but are you referring to a different kind of change with regard to the media inserts? Did the filters themselves change, too?

I went back to the original post. I'm wondering if there are different models or packing for different areas, or did Hagen just change suppliers? The AquaClear filters I purchased a year or two back shipped with solid BioMax, not rings. It looks like extruded pellets.

Here is a picture that seems to show ceramic rings

Here is what seems to be BioMax rings
    http://www.sears.com/hagen-biomax-bi...70002P?prdNo=9

And one that seems to show solid BioMax pellets

And, here is a thread that seems to describe the situation of various BioMax materials.

    Thank you VERY much, 'bossman!

Again -- this was exactly the kind of information I was seeking on this topic; that thread from MonsterFishKeepers was especially helpful...

Here's the situation based on the links you graciously provided: The first two links feature the large, hollow rings that I was originally saying came with my 110 when I bought it -- they were large and hollow like that, and came with a "net" sack that the rings went into to be placed in the media basket. It seems now, Hagen only makes these for their FLUVAL line of filters -- although in those links, it does say for "AquaClear" series, so I don't know what is going on...

In the third link you provided is the EXACT product I recently purchased for my 110 at Petsmart -- the box was labeled "BioMax," but inside were small, solid "pellets" pre-packaged in two separate sacks, ready to be rinsed and placed in the basket...so, am I to take it that is how Hagen is shipping their replacement media for the 110 now, as two separate sacks of small solid pellets (in the case of BioMax)?
